You know I always remember stories and the times of my life with a kind of.....aw,you know what I mean. I kind of adopted that Movie title theme "When We Were Kings" that told of the lives during a specific period of Muhammad Ali and George Foreman and apply it to my younger years. When I was a King,I say.Sometimes, I just have to laugh at how carefree and indestructable I seemed to be then.

I'll explain.

I was a union construction worker building concrete office buildings so the money was good and I had a BMW R100S scooter that would sometimes not get off the exit for work but would continue on to head for the Atlantic Ocean off of Long Island for the day.Sometimes for two days even.make them think I was really sick.

I learned quickly that that the best day to go was on Monday when most waitresses were off and also heading to the beach for a little sun.It was always fun seeing if they had a Long Gisland accent (a turnoff)(but not an insurmountable or should I say unmountable one)Fran Dresser (The Nanny) has an accent like this.See what I mean?Yea or nay?I say yea.

One night myself and two other BMW riders buzzed down to NYC to go the Statue of Liberty party after she had been refurbished.Big major bash, the city was alive and at a club called Studio 54 (the in place at the time)they were having an invitation only party with all of the new runway models coming out hosted by the Temptations. It was hard to get into this place on a normal night. You had to be cool to get in.There was no parking anywhere close to the place......for cars......our bikes fit nicely on the sidewalk by the door thank you very much.I had on full black leathers and this was during the height of the Road Warrior movie craze that starred Mel Gibson and alot of women thought I bore a resemblance to him, thank you very much Mr Gibson.

So there we stood in line with basically no shot in hell of gaining entrance into this place but the line is moving quickly so we just played it cool and acted cool. The people directly in front of us were now at the door and giving their invitations to the door personel and I guess there was a small problem because they were talking alot and weren't getting in.The door man looked at them and told them to follow him so they all trapsed off into the club......leaving us......standing there.....looking at each other.....smiling......and wondering WTF.

We walked right in and we were immediately approached..............
..........by the finest cocktail waitress I've ever seen with a platter of champagne glasses filled with Dom.I grabbed a glass and headed for my rightful place at the foot of the stage where the Temptations were already playing.About three feet away from me.This same stage served as the runway for the models.Good place for Supercool to hangout. What a blast!Thank you very much!

Now,from now on I'm not relegating my King status thing to the past.I'm now a husband with two great kids and I love them all.I am now officially at my Kingliest. As we speak.

It don't get any Kingyer than this and it's important that I realise this right now while it's happening.

King Rob

My salute to his kinglyness! The past can be a grand adventure or, well let's not go there! The grandest of adventures are the ones I seek when the nights are cold and you are snuggled with your family under a polar fleece and you know the snow won't let up to let them go to school the next day and the best film feature in the world is coming on later than they are allowed to normally stay up and by golly you just happened to be stocked up on Orville Redenbocker's cheese popcorn! And you thought being a king has its advantages!! ;-)
Great post your highness!

When I was growing up my mom HATED when we were home from school.I on the other hand share your sentiments Peg.When I get up and and there is a snow day I smile and wake my kid up just so he can realise he can go back to sleep.I think that step is important.I used to love it when the city was "paralyzed" because of snow.
Thanks Peg
As always

great story of your younger "mel gibsonish" years.

i would totally rather have the life of home with family than out partying with beautiful people.

the difference...

one little word..
with a huge meaning..

love.

I made quite a contribution to the US actually. You know sowing amber waves of grain with some wild oats.It was fun and shallow but all in all I wouldn't want to change anything because I managed to live through it.Doing any other way involves too much risk.I might have died.Hehe
